Horray! First Friday, December 2013 was over-the-top fun and had the largest crowds ever. Temperatures in the 70's likely helped too. The above photo features the inflatables and artifical snowflakes at Hamburger Square. The corner of South Elm and McGee Streets was fun and festive all night long. In the left-hand corner, you can see "Just Be" and to the right is "Design Archives" both were selling arts and crafts items right and left. So much of what these stores is made in North Carolina. There were so many pretty things to purchase and so many talented musicians downtown last night that it was simply uplifting. A huge thank you to all of the sponsor and, especially the News and Record. They really helped build a sense of community with the foam antler and blinking necklace giveaways. If we didn't already receive home delivery of the paper seven days a week, we'd run out and get a subscription to help support a company that brings so much to our community.
Yep, downtown looks a lot like Christmas, even if it is air-conditioner weather. If you are looking for something to do today, the store windows on Elm Street are the prettiest that we have ever seen them. Have a stroll, take a look and say a big Merry Christmas or ¡Feliz Navidad! to anyone you know who celebrates. Also remember that today is the Holiday Market at St. Francis Episcopal Church on Lawndale from 10-3pm. And the holiday market at the Yanceyville Curb Market across from War Memorial is Sunday. Alway room for one more handmade item in your life!
