Who better to feature on Veterans Day than our own Congressman Coble? Howard Coble frequently speaks at events for veterans, living and deceased, in the 6th district. The above photo was taken at one such event, the 2013 Memorial Day service at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greensboro. In 2011, we featured him (here) and in 2013 (here). The day he posed for the above photo, he did not stand still for long, people right and left were waiting for a chance to talk to him and shake his hand.
Congressman Coble was first elected to Congress 29 years ago in 1984 and was a public servant before that. While Congressman Coble is a staunch Republican, he is known for being responsive to his constituents, regardless of their political affiliation. Having served in the U.S. Coast Guard (5 1/2 years active duty and 22 years as a reserve), the Congressman is especially appreciative of his constituents serving in the military. North Carolina's 6th congressional district, spreading over ten counties from Surry to Granville County, will have some big shoes to fill. So this Veterans Day, as you begin your last year in office Congressman Coble, it is your turn to be recognized. Please accept our salute to you for a lifetime of public service to North Carolina and the Nation. What a legacy!
As North Carolinians, we should be proud of such a long-serving congressman who leaves the office with such a fine record and without s touch of scandal.
