Last night we went shopping at El Mercadito at the Corner of West Market and Muir's Chapel Road. tamarind soda, salty plantain chips, and the fresh tacos are our favorite. You can shop the grocery store side, eat at the yummy-reasonably-priced restaurant, buy things from their bakery or all three. Their tacos (beef, pork, chicken) will melt in your mouth. You might even want to get some pickled pigs feet.
El Mercadito is one of many Mexican bakeries selling day-of-the-dead bread this season. On Wednesday, we were able to purchase loaves shaped like people in loving memory of relatives who are deceased. To the non-initiated, the custom may sound odd; but just think of allowing yourself one day a year to conjure up fond, happy memories of the loved ones who departed this earth before you. Feliz Día de los Muertos and Happy November 1st. Also, today is first Friday in downtown Greensboro. Feliz First Friday. All the way around, today should be fun for all! Perhaps.... hasta los muertos salen a bailar (even the dead are rising up to dance).
