Yesterday was the 4th community Jewish Festival at Temple Emanuel on Jefferson Road. The event happens each October and is open to the public. Participants got to enjoy learning about people and events that happened over 5,000 years ago, so that they will be remembered not only today but also into the future. There was singing and dancing and plenty to do and eat. From matzo ball soup to deli sandwiches to desserts, food was abundant at the Jewish festival. Where there is food, there is garbage. Testival organizers and volunteers worked hard to ensure that guests reduced, reused, and recycled. By the end of the afternoon, people were saying, "Bal tashchit/Do not waste."
Care for the environment is a concept of global importance. The concept transcends ethnicities, countries, and land forms. Not wasting matters everywhere. Whether you are hanging out at Temple Emanuel in Greensboro or in your own home, have a great Monday and remember...... bal tashchit!
