For this Friday, at the end of a HOT summer week, we leave you with this view of Bain Street. Do you know where it is? Have you ever been on Bain Street? As you can see, it is a really popular place to park for people who are downtown Greensboro. The word "bain" can mean "ready, willing, direct, near, short, gain, limber, pliant, flexible." However, in spite of having multiple definitions, this Middle English term is mostly not used today. We wonder how the street got its name.
It is the last street on the right, off of South Elm Street, just before East Lee Street. Happy Friday. Stop by Bain Street and see the beautiful sunset and the nice perspective- great for art students to see how the street vanishes onto the horizon!
Didn't we have a mayor, Carson Bain?

THANK YOU, Kim. You are right. Carson Bain, founder of Bain Oil Company, was the former mayor of Greensboro (1967-1969) and was very involved in Greensboro politics and civic organizations. He died in 2010. Here is his obituary.
