Northside Baptist Church is located not far from Cone Elementary School, in the heart of the Cone Mill village community. Specifically, the church is located at the corner of Cypress and East Cornwallis streets. Cypress is one of those streets that gets fragmented due to new roads being added. It starts over near State Street and ends in the Aycock Historic District. The above church is near State Street.
Northside Baptist's history is tied to Cone Textile Mills and its roots date to the early 20th century. Fortunately, the church has worked hard to document its history, some of which is available here. As noted on their church website, by the time they set about to document their history, no founding members were alive to interview. However, through records and long-time members, they've managed to document a great deal of their early history. Northside Baptist began with a mere twelve members in a time when people walked everywhere and, for those twelve members, likely, the church was a stone's throw from their porches. While times have changed, the church's beliefs have not. If you are seeking a dynamic, traditional Baptist church with a lot of history and a vision for its future, visit Northside.
Happy Sunday, folks. See our other religion related posts, here. And stop back next Sunday to see what gets featured next.
Buildings with columned porches always remind me of the South.
