Here we see the Church Street fire station facility. This is "ground zero" for the fire department. Fire Station #1 and #2 are both on North Church Street.* Also, firefighters practice putting out fires in this historic part of town, the area of many of Greensboro's mills and mill villages. In the back, you can see the smokestack for Revolution Mill on nearby Yanceyville Street. Greensboro has over 33 fire companies and 23 fire stations located throughout Greensboro.
Wintertime is a busy time for firefighters. We all need to be extra careful. Between heating fuel and Christmas decorations, firefighters are kept busy this time of year. If you are a fire station or history buff, you must read this website about Greensboro's former firehouses. In Greensboro and Guilford County, we value our fire fighters, paid as well as our volunteers. The training process is grueling for these everyday heroes.
Here is our photo of the old central fire station. Here is old firestation #5 on South Mendenhall, built in 1897. Here is the current #5 in all of its glory; #49 on Friendly Avenue; and #17 on Old Oak Ridge Road.

Look at all those cables and wires obstructing the picture! I have the same problem with photos here in Malaysia :)
