Here we see a woman (court reporter?) being interviewed by a journalist about the John Edwards trial. In the background, you see Greensboro's Federal Court House, the L. Richardson Preyer Building.
The trial of the former U.S. senator and presidential candidate, John Edwards, is being held in Greensboro, in the Preyer Building. Edwards is accused of failure to disclose money in violation of campaign finance disclosure laws.* He is NOT on trial for maritial infidelity; his betrayed wife is dead.
However, consider this irony:
Throughout the United States, marriage is generally considered to be not only a legal commitment but also a physical and emotional commitment. On May 8th, North Carolina will vote on whether or not a domestic legal union will be valid and recognized by the State if other than between one man and one woman.** Presently, former Senator Edwards has the legal right to vote on how marriage is defined in our State, in spite of the fact that he grossly violated the sanctity of marriage himself. However, there are those North Carolinians who diligently adhere to the sanctity of marriage whose union may never be recognized by the State and who may soon find themselves with even fewer rights. It is a lot to process.
*timeline of trial events here. ** read actual amendment here.
Excellent post--love the way you combined the two big issues in an ironic twist.

With a steady 50% divorce rate in the US, I'd say the "sanctity of marriage" is pretty much a myth.
