Lake Townsend is the largest of Greensboro's municipal reservoirs. The 1,542 acre lake, northeast of Greensoro, was opened in 1969 and named in honor of James R. Townsend who served as Greensboro's City Manager for fourteen years-- from 1947-1961. Lake Townsend Baptist Church is located at 214 Denny Road, just off of North Elm Street near Pisgah Church Road. We found this church the day we were exploring Zola Drive. The church is located near, but not on, Lake Townsend. We loved the looks of this little white structure, along the road of what used to be a very rural part of Greensboro.
Not much is written about this specific church online. However, as Baptists, they believe that baptisms should be performed on consenting adults only, as opposed to infants. Also, baptism is immersion in water, not a few drops on the head. If you want to learn about the Baptist faith in general, Wikipedia is a great place to start. We do know that the Annual Meeting of the Baptist State Convention starts tomorrow and you can read more at the North Carolina Baptists' website here. Here is another great website about the history of Baptists in NC (here too). So much to learn and a little complicated about differences in doctrine for people not of the religion.
