Piedmont Triad International (PTI) Airport is beautiful at night, especially in the rain. Here is a picture of the Fed Ex side of the airport just after a soaking rain when the asphalt took on the magical reflective quality of a lake. PTI is located eight miles west of Greensboro. The landing field is called Lindley Field, named for the Lindley family who owned it prior to 1927. It was the second official airmail route in the USA. Another great piece of PTI (not so trivial) trivia is the fact that Charles Lindberg brought the "Spirit of St. Louis" here in 1927. This summer, when we interviewed Greensboro lawyer Henry Isaacson, Chairman of the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority, he told us how much he enjoyed his involvement with the airport. We're betting he is an arsenal of PTI trivia.
Today, we're bringing you a David- Letterman-style top ten list. The top ten busiest domestic routes out of Greensboro's PTI are #10... Washington-Reagan, DC; #9 Washington-Dulles, DC; #8 Dallas-Fort Worth, TX; #7 Detroit, MI; #6 Newark, NJ; #5 Chicago O'Hare, IL; #4 New York- LaGuardia, NY; #3 Philadelphia, PA; #2 Charlotte, NC;..... #1....ta...da...Atlanta, GA (reference).
This is our contribution to Weekend Reflections.
Shiny pretty indeed. I love airports, day or night.
