Inspired by our weekly Skywatch Friday posts, this photo is an effort to extend the art of Patrick Dougherty's 20-ft. art instillation on the campus of Guilford College. The camera is on the ground pointing to the sky through the round, maze of saplings that Dougherty bent into a beautiful work of art. See a 3-minute video about Dougherty's creative process, here.
From saplings to Peace signs, to the sky... and beyond. Why?
Guilford College is known for its fine liberal arts education with emphasis on social responsibility. Peace and efforts for enhancing its students' global perspective radiate from the campus. Guilford College was founded by the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in 1837. Quakers are known for their tradition of pacifism (read more here). So, to Guilford College, to Quakers, to Patrick Dougherty, to the City Daily Photo Community that does SO MUCH to bring the world together, and to YOU our readers: PEACE! (see GDP's 2009 peace and saplings photo here).
These are saplings? Alive and soon to bear new leaves? Wow!
WHICH SKY FOR YOU?
Which sky for you?
One that is blue?
Or do you prefer
A sky that’s demure?
A sky in grey
Is soft, they say,
And not everyone
Likes the blinding sun.
Perhaps a sky
Through which geese fly
To winter havens
Away from ravens?
A rain-swept sky
That seems to cry?
O quickly choose one
Before day is done!

This is one of the most interesting sky shots I have seen in awhile. That is amazing how you put all this together. One things for sure, you have a way with your camera. Job well done. I loved this post.

Love these, they look like giant bird houses in the earlier post and this must be the "Birds eye " view form within their circle.
