We learned recently that Urban Francis is a 21st century version of St. Francis of Assisi. This close up of the face shows the detail sculptor Judith Shea put into the art project. The cast bronze statue has been installed behind the Weatherspoon Art Museum on the UNCG campus. Yesterday, a faithful reader asked where the pigeons were. We'll Jane, today's photo shows you that they are flying nearby, overhead. The stained face adds yet another human element to this saint in a mortal's clothing. Someone asked if the sculpture is installed permanently behind the Weatherspoon or if it is temporary. It looks permanent; however, we're not sure.
Notice how the brick casts a reddish glow onto the face of Urban Statue. Also, notice the reflection in the windows behind. We're sharing the photo with Weekend Reflection.
You've captured a lot here. So nice.
I like the idea of bringing the old saints into modern life.

Interesting. I wonder why the sculptor felt the need to create a modern-day St. Francis. Hmmm.

J'ignorais que St François d'assises avait le cheveu frisé... Mais la photo méritait de l'apprendre... Très belle capture de reflets de lumière rouge sur cette peau noire...
