Today is ABC Wednesday when we share a street a week. This Wednesday and "F" is for Friendly Avenue.
Friendly Avenue begins and ends with Market Street. Near NCA&T University and Murrow Blvd., Market Street splits off into Market and East Friendly. At Elm Street, it becomes West Friendly and continues all the way out to the airport where, just past Chimney Rock Road and Old Friendly, it merges into Market Street again. Along the way, there are 698 homes, making Friendly Avenue the most residential street in Greensboro.
The house above is located on the narrow part where Market and Friendly create a little island of houses just west of UNCG. The roofline of this house has a bungalow/Asian appearance. The mixture of wood and granite provides a glimpse of what residential Greensboro looked like in the 1920's and 1930's.
Friendly Avenue has been mentioned frequently on GDP, particularly in the Guilford College area. Given its importance to the city, its link to Guilford College, and the fact that is has so many homes and businesses, Friendly deserves recognition. After all, what would Greensboro be without it? Unfriendly? We can't imagine! Out of the 200+ streets that start with the letter "F," today, we celebrate Friendly! If you want to follow our weekly parade of streets, start here.
What big houses.

Is this the Craftsman style? It looks like a lot of houses around here where we live.

This house seems atypical of the homes I envision on Friendly Avenue. Those lining the street from Friendly Center out to Guilford College are more spacious with nice, large lawns.

I'm loving all those different roof lines!

Seems appropriate that Friendly is the most residential.

I wonder if there is a Friendly Street in a lot of towns and cities. I know there are a lot of Pleasant Streets!
