Here we see the skyline of Greensboro, taken on a winter day from the northeast, just off of Murrow Blvd. Today is Presidents' Day, a federal holiday that was formerly known as Washington's Birthday. First implemented in 1880, Washington's Birthday was the first federal holiday established in honor of a single person. President's Day, honoring the office of the presidency, falls on the third Monday in February; this year-- February 21st. Traditionally, Presidents' Day is a big retail day with sales on everything from cars to clothing.
While all is quiet with all of the federal offices downtown, Greensboro businesses and the Guilford County Schools are on regular schedules. Here is a President's Day webquest created by the Guilford County Schools. As feasible, teachers will incorporate the holiday into the curriculum today. If you are an American, how will you celebrate Presidents' Day? If you are from elsewhere, how does your country celebrate its leaders?
We are having Cherry pie for dessert tonight ,a traditional way to celebrate and yummy too!
We attended a Presidents Day sale entirely by chance yesterday . I took the street route instead of the freeway back from the hobby shop (DH needed slot car parts!NEEDED!) in the next county over and thought I would find a place for lunch on the way. Found an old favorite deli that had moved to a new location, had hot pastrami on onion roll, mmmmmmmmm.
By now we were near a favorite Antique mall housed in an old railway grain warehouse, very chilly inside!
We have never been there on a weekend ,wow shoppers everywhere, good to see happy shoppers again. Almost every booth was having a sale of 10-25%off for Presidents day today, they were ready early yesterday and all the prices were good too. I now have a case of 15 metal advertising thermometers from the 1960s ,new in boxes from an old awning company and in the theme of his day Bob has a vintage 1950s green marble tackle box made of "Plas-tek" that will be home to many slot cars!
Good start to this week! Hope your goes as well or better!

I like the green grass spring signs so much.
Thanks for the info about this holiday, never heard before.
Here, in elsewhere, there is no special holiday. Our leaders' life is holiday on everyday basis).

This is ALMOST the spot that I have found twice lately to be strikingly beautiful at dusk...after they turn on the Jefferson lights but before the sun sets.
