This is a scene on Elm Street, just north of Friendly Avenue. As evidenced by the time on the clock, it is 5:20pm, the point at which day is ending and night is taking over. Today is theme day for the City Daily Photo community and the theme is TIME-- open to interpretation by the thousand plus members worldwide. We took a literal, here-and-now approach to time and photographed the Rolex clock in front of the Chamber of Commerce. The clock was installed by Carlyle & Company. The high-end jewelry company was founded in Greensboro in 1922 by the Cohen family. While the company survived the stock market crash of 1929, it did not weather the recent economic storm. Sadly, after 87 years in business, Carlysle and Company closed its doors last year. The clock remains a relic of its retail history. The clock ticks and the traffic moves down the road, leading us towards whatever the future brings in Greensboro and beyond.....
Conveniently, "T" is for "time, traffic and tick tock" on ABC Wednesday and, for Watery Wednesdaynature provided us with water too! Other, more Greensboro-related "T's" that we'll feature in the future include: Tanger Outlet, Ten Thousand Villages, Tannenbaum Park, and Triad Stage. As for the wonderful City Daily Photo Community: Click here to view thumbnails for all participants
That seems an unusual spot to put a clock tower, but it would be much easier to see than were it on top of the building.
I really like all the bright colours on the wet street, too.

You caught that beautiful blue hour light with the wonderful light reflections on the rain slick roadway. It's just beautiful, and this is a perfect theme day shot!

The closing is an all too common sight in these times.

A beautiful capture of night coming to a city street! The colors on the wet street are fabulous. And I love the clock, one like it was once a feature in my hometown downtown, South Bend IN.

I'm hoping this comment will go through. I wrote a long comment on your post yesterday and Blogger killed it...and then buried it. I could never find it.
Anyway, I love night shots and this is a beauty!
Re your comment on Florida...yes, we have lots of springs and the water in these springs stays right at 72 degrees year round. One of the biggest (if not the biggest) is at Silver Springs where over 550 million gallons of fresh water pours out every 24 hours...goes into the Silver River, then the Oklawaha River, then into the St. John's River and finally, into the Atlantic Ocean. The water is 99.4% pure (or maybe 99.9%)...

I love this photo. Great choice for T. Sometimes I wish time would slow down. Especially when a business like this has to close. So many "I remember whens" these days in our town center too.
