Here we see the side view of Brandt Oaks Baptist Church on Lake Brandt Road, just behind the Greensboro Day School. The manger was empty at the time of this photograph; however, tonight and tomorrow night (December 19th and 20th), it will become a living nativity. From 6:30- 8:30, church members will get in character to recreate the scene from the Bethlehem of two centuries ago. The church encourages people who drive by to bring non-perishable foods for Urban Ministry. Yet another opportunity to help, almost effortlessly.
Brandt Oaks Baptist does, indeed, have large oak trees on their property. One, just out of view in this photo has a giant yellow ribbon with a "PRAY FOR PEACE" message. Each week, we offer at least one religious post (here).
I wonder which story these folks follow for their manger scene - the one in Matthew or the one in Luke?
I was in a nativity scene once...the folks needed someone who could make an ass of himself!
