Jailhouse Rock

Downtown Greensboro is about to get a new jail and detention center. The new complex, funded by a recent bond, is being constructed at the intersection of South Edgeworth and West Sycamore Streets. As you may recall, the jail is the reason the Zenke properties were displaced/relocated. The large cranes to the left were working on the complex as we snapped this photo. While you can't actually see the jail, this photo shows the facility's location relative to downtown. The low, buttery yellow building near the center of the photo is Blandwood Mansion. To the left is a Guilford County Schools' building and the downtown YMCA. If you get a chance, drive by and watch your tax dollars at work.

For ABC Wednesday, if you haven't guessed, "J" is for JAIL! We doubt the new jail will be this much fun but we couldn't resist embedding Elvis Presley's Jailhouse Rock music video here!

Wow! Not too often you hear about the plans for a new jail! They must be planning a rather large one going by this scene! Great shot and very interesting post!

You have to love Elvis!

They tend not to put prisons right in the middle of cities over here, although we do now have one in ours - people were up in arms about it, although it doesn't house dangerous criminals, it's not something people like to live near.
