To quote Jimi Hendrix in his 1967 song 'Purple Haze', " 'scuse me while I kiss the sky." Some days Greensboro's sky is so beautiful we could just kiss it and publish the photo straight from the camera. Other days, it is so dull, we have to play around in iPhoto to enhance the visual appeal. Today's psychedelic sky is reminiscent of the black light posters so popular with the Hendrix crowd.
Greensboro of the 1960's is remembered for its involvement in the Civil Rights Movement-- from sit-ins to economic marches to protests and sermons. However, with seven institutions of higher education between here and High Point (UNCG, NC A&T, Guilford College, Greensboro College, Bennett College, High Point University, and GTCC), it is highly likely that some folks were listening to Jimi Hendrix songs and knew the lyrics to Purple Haze by heart! Here's to then, now, and everyone in between!
The photo was taken at a local golf course. The silhouetted sunset is reflected in one of the water features and is shared with the world on Skywatch Friday.
As blaze of purple
sears the evening sky, I weep—
do you wonder why?

Oh what a beautiful skywatch! I forgot about that line...scuse me while I kiss the sky! I'll be thinking about that on my next skywatch shot.
And I wanted to wish you a belated blog birthday. Congrats on that! And thank you for your nice comment on my blog last week. This daily photo thing sure is fun!

Wow! That is stunning. I love the reflection. It would be pretty tough to improve on that.

Gorgeous sky and reflection. I was a big Jimmi Hendrix fan, also loved Janice Joplin, and Bob Marley. So many of the great musicians of my youth died too young. Ironically, Bob Marley died from melanoma which spread from nail bed to his liver and I never knew that until I was diagnosed with melanoma in my late 40s. Mine spread to lymph nodes but I've lucked out so far with no recurrances since the lymph nodes were removed. The irony to me is that I thought it sad so many of the heroes of my youth died from drug overdoses but didn't realize that Bob Marley died from the same cancer I ended up getting and might have avoided if I'd protected my skin from the sun. The way I made the leap from your mentioning purple haze is that I'll admit that my first thought when I think of that song is the LSD, purple haze, although a literal purple sky is a much better thought and certainly the song can be taken many ways. Hmmmmm, perhaps I should delete this. For the record I'm a 52 years old straitlaced mom of a grown child, at this point in my life, and don't even drink except wine on special occasions. The thing is you sent me reeling down memory lane, ha

WOW. This makes up for the dull skies. It rather sears into your brain, doesn't it!

That is one of the most amazing skies I've ever seen and we do have beautiful ones here in Seattle, but this one is mind blowing plus I have a thing about reflections. Stunning colors! Thank you so much for visiting my blog and for your kind comment -- always appreciated. Hope you have a wonderful weekend! Enjoy!

The reflection is so bright and clear that it´s unbelievable. A really fine tribute to Jimi Hnedrix.

Lovely colors and reflections. This is really pretty.
I like the IPOD picture above too, though I don't have an IPOD. My son does, but he never lets me play with it.
