On Thursday, April 30th, a public meeting was held regarding public input on the widening of Horse Pen Creek Road. The two proposed plans call for two lanes in each direction a) with a center turn lane or b) with a grassy median. At the meeting, held at St. Paul's Catholic Church, drawings of both plans were presented. The drawings must have been 30 feet long and 3 feet wide! Additionally, engineers from Greensboro's transportation department were on hand to answer questions. Fox 8 news covered the event. City residents were encouraged to complete surveys. Attendance was impressive; even city employees were commenting on the great response to the meeting.
After taking pictures for an hour, we settled on publishing the above photo of the cyclists filling out their surveys. (Do you think they voted for the bike lane)????? When finished, the cohort of about 25 cyclists, dressed from head to toe in cycling gear, biked down Horse Pen Creek Road and turned onto Jessup Grove. The sight was truly was impressive.
Public comment on the project ends tomorrow, Friday, May 8, 2009; if you want your voice to be heard, speak now or forever hold your peace! The contact information is Chris R. Spencer Congestion Manager and ITS Engineer for Greensboro at [email protected] Call him at 336-433-7218
