Continuing our feature of High Point Road, this photo was taken near the intersection of High Point and Farmington Roads from the front yard of yesterday's rock castle-- not quite the stone home's original view. However, the Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a great place to recirculate unwanted goods. Make your unwanted items available to someone else by sending them to this store. Habitat's electronic sign, shown above with the phone number, changes every few seconds. Triangle Rent A Car's fraternal twin signs and other signs in the distance exemplify the typical look of the area.
If you are looking for High Point Road, you need to know that Lee Street and High Point Road are the same. Lee Street, eastward, leads past downtown Greensboro eventually intersecting with Interstate 40. Westward, it changes its name to High Point Road somewhere near the Coliseum. Formerly a sleepy little road winding through Jamestown to (you guessed it) High Point, today the road is an endless sea of retail. When time permits, we hope to learn more about the history of High Point Road. For now, this linked timeline since the 1990's will have to suffice. Unfortunately, the timeline mostly chronicles road widening and crime. Can anybody out there share some upbeat "I remember when....." tales of High Point Road?
Wow, great number of advertising signs. And all the wires making the scene even more interesting! I like it.

My brother used to refer to High Point Road as "Franchise Row." Apt, don't you think? JTM

A good restoration point, like on a computer, goes to a pristine time in the past.
So...tear down all the signs, and start over.
