Garden planting time is just around the corner. Seeing this ornamental cabbage reminded us that we need to start thinking about gardening. The parks, green ways, and landscaping throughout the city is proof positive that Greensboro values its plants. With the brown and gray vistas of winter, this purple and green cabbage photographed at The Fresh Market on Lawndale Drive is a welcomed sight.
Isn't that the most beautiful thing you have ever seen. I never have planted them but they are always pretty. I guess it depends on variety but most of the ornamental cabbages around here are leggy or have like a tree-trunk stem with the head on top. The whole thing like that doesn't look nice but the tops are nice but not as nice as this one.
I have been getting my nursery catalogs and seed catalogs in and have been looking at them. I am searching for clump bamboo but it is only catching on around here so not many catalogs even list it.

The link on "ornamental cabbage" above, takes you to our very own North Carolina State University's floriculture site on ornamental cabbage. While many stunning varieties are presented, we haven't yet located the name of the one in the photo above.
Thank you Abraham Lincoln (yes, he is a descendent of the 16th president) for sharing your comments.
