Today, on the 12th day of Christmas, the Epiphany, we are sharing Tom Clark's Holy Family and nativity scene. Clark was a professor of religion at Davidson College in Cornelius, North Carolina. He also received art training in several countries. While best known for his gnomes, equally impressive are his religious figures and his scaled miniatures of historic people like Davy Crockett and Thomas Jefferson. We are proud to feature Madame M's collection, which she displays alongside her now-famous Santon collection.
Unless we decide to feature Eastern Orthodox Christmas, which falls on January 7th, this photo should be Greensboro Daily Photo's "swan song" photo for the Christmas season. However, we are continuing the tradition of posting something spiritual on Sunday (Sacred Sunday) and will present more on the Paschal Mystery as we approach Easter. For now, enjoy the gnome-like faces on the Holy Family and google "Tom Clark gnomes" if you would like to learn more about his art as well as the value of the pieces. They are even available at Replacements, Ltd.!
